Ambien Safe During Breastfeeding!

Sleep and me need each other. Badly. Lack of sleep throws me into hypomania. Hence the feelings I have now.

Last night while not sleeping I discovered that the American Academy of Pediatrics considers Ambien compatible with breastfeeding! I was so happy to hear that.

You know I have been so afraid to take ANYTHING while breastfeeding except for my Lamictal which I take religiously.

So last night I took 1 Ambien. And I slept for 4 hours straight. Yippee! Tonight I will take another Ambien and hope to sleep for 6 hours or so.

I discovered this about Ambien on my favorite breastfeeding site: KellyMom

Hey...I was just searching for some information on breastfeeding and bipolar and can across your blog. It's nice to hear that managing bipolar and breastfeeding is possible. I have a 1 year old little girl and and 4 months pregnant with my second baby. I was just diagnosed as bipolar about 3 1/2 months ago, so I'm new to this. It's a pretty crappy feeling right now though.

This drug makes it possible for me to live a normal life. It doesn't affect me the was it is supposed to. I've had severe depression after having a miscarriage and basically having a complete breakdown. My PCP prescribed it for insomnia to get me through until the antidepressants kicked in. I took it one night and it didn't make me tired but I felt calm and for the first time in weeks I was able to have clear thoughts. I was able to do housework and talk about my feelings more. I take it in the morning and it actually gives me the drive to make it through the day.
